Thriller Films:
Seven:
Within the opening of 'Seven' the sound effects and music are low pitched as this creates a sense of power and strength. The machinery sound shown is loud and uprising as it poses a question on the audience, this is very similar to what we want to use in our opening as we are using a lot of fast jump cuts which the music really helps capture the disturbance and agitation the film is trying to portray. These sound effects are non-digetic as its quite, yet uprising as it captures the audiences full attention. However, the digetic sound of a girl screaming is played which creates a sense of uncertainly and torture. This is making the audience uncomfortable with the situation. I really like these sound effects used as it creates a daunting atmosphere and makes me feel afraid. This is something similar to what we want to use as its quick, fast pace and has a mixture of digetic and non-digetic sounds. i feel that this is very successful as its created a lot of tension.
Pyscho:
The Twilight Saga:
Focusing up till 2 minutes. Within the opening of 'The Twilight Saga' there are many jump cuts of the first scene and the music is very mysterious and daunting. However, at the beginning of the opening, the main character is talking while the camera shows the scenery. This sound effect is something which we would love to out into our opening and have already planned to do something similar to this as it is unusual and not used a lot in the present day. This gets the audience focused into the opening and wonders what is happening. This also allows the audience to hear the vulnerability characters voice. The alarming music/sound effects playing while the deer is running through the woods is what we are aiming to use within our opening as you can hear the deers footsteps which lets the audience feel as if they are in the moment. Also the music is up-tempo which creates an alive atmosphere., this is happening, while the camera is running as if someone is trying the catch the deer making the camera shake. This is something which we will want to create as it makes the audience feel uncomfortable and intimidated. The Twilight Saga is a huge inspiration for our opening as this is all similar to what we are aiming to add within our opening. I extremely love this opening for a fantasy film as it makes the audience question whats happening and why. The camera is creating an vexatious and distressing atmosphere for the audience which is what we want to create in our opening.
The Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl:
Focusing up till 2:15.Within the opening of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ a young girl is singing which creates a seedy, yet quite scary atmosphere as it’s a daunting , making the audience feel as if someone has been captured. Having a young girl talking/singing is an aspect which we want to add into our opening as it creates uncertainly, and also leaves a mystery on the audience, creating a hunted surroundings. The music which is played 2 minutes into the opening is slow and enigmatic as its creating an uncanny atmosphere, having the audience at the edge of their seats as we know it is slowly leading up to something frightening. This is some music we would want to use while Snow White is talking at the beginning of the scene; this type of unwilling music is perfect as background music while she is talking as it builds up the tension. However, I believe that it is too slow of our fast-paced scene as we are aiming to have up-beat and alarming music while Snow White is trying through the woods as we want to grab the audience’s attention of her emotion and feelings. In conclusion, this music is successful as it does intimidate the audience.
