Today in my Media lesson, as a whole class we went through the evaluating criteria, I will create a evaluation after we have gone through the filming process. We was given 7 slips of paper which consists what of is most and least important when creating an evaluation. This will come in very useful when creating my evaluation. This is the order of importance:
- There is an understanding of the forms and conventions used in the productions
- There is an understanding o of the production of new media in various stages of the production
- There is an understanding of the combination of the main product and ancillary tasks
- There is an understanding of the significance of an audience feedback
- There is skill in choice of form in which to present the evaluation
- There is an ability to communicate
- There is the use of digital technology or ICT in the presentation.
In order to help us gain extra marks and understand what aspects we need to include when filming and editing, we look through two different types of film openings made from other students, analysing and marking how well they've done. We had to mark the work in several boxes which were either, Poor, Basic, Prof or Excel. The questions were:
- Producing materials appropriate to the target audience and task
- Using titles appropriately to institution conventions
- Using sounds with images and editing appropriately for the task
- Holding a steady shot, where appropriate
- Shooting material appropriate to the task set
- Selecting mise-en-scene, including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting
- Using a variety of shot distances as appropriate
- Using varied shot transitions and other effects selectively and appropriately for the task
- Editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer
After answering these questions, i written my 'student comments' and 'targets'.
This really helped me get a example of what i need to include to get top marks. At the first example we looked at, i feel the way the director has produced the credits to interact with the actors make a film much more better to visually watch which i extremely admire and is someone i would love to incorporate into our opening. However, despite this, the camera was shaking in some places which was noticeable and feel that practising needs to be done beforehand with the camera before actually filming. This are aspects which we will consider when filming.
In addition, Nicola, Chloe and I when into a silent room and looked over our notes taken from today, we asked our media teacher for a microphone which we then practice creating our voice over which is played at the beginning establishing shots. We all had taken turns in saying the script and deciding who we should consider using, as our aim was to use a gentle, well spoken teenage women. However, the microphone did not work and as we had trouble setting the equipment up and connecting it to the computer. In result, Nicola brought in her laptop from home into school which consists of a built in microphone and editing soft ware which is called 'iMovie'. We created a practice trial of some one talking, the mic did not pick up any background noise which was beneficial. However, we discovered that we will need to film the opening before creating the voice over. This was really helpful and allowed us to keep re-creating the voice over until get got it perfect. Furthermore, we have came to a conclusion of creating the voice over after we have filmed the establishing shots, as it will be easy to put the voice over onto the opening.

This lesson did particularly help me and gain a better understanding on what i need to do to get those extra marks which i may have not considered when planning. Also, looking at other individuals final pieces helped me get an understanding of what i need to put visually into the opening as this also counts. As we also looked at their weakness, when filming we will make sure we wont include these into our opening and will try to overcome them
