Continuity Exercise - filming process:

Completed by: Me

Today we started to film our continuity exercises. We had to produce a 30 second sequence of a character who must walk through a doorway, sit down, exchange some dialogue and then leave. This task is to help us gain knowledge of using cameras and knowing the different type of camera angles. I worked in a group with Emma Gower, Chloe King and Laura Jeffreson.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Chloe King - Actress
  • Laura Jefferson - Actress
  • Emma Gower - Camera women/prop set up
  • Me - Camera women/prop set up

Equipment needed:
  • Camera
  • Tripod
  • A table with 2 chairs
Firstly we had to chose an appropriate location for filming, make sure the camera was working and learned how to use it and rehearse lines, action and camera angles. We had chosen Emma's storyboard to work with.

Location:
  • Astley Cooper IT/hallway

Emma's storyboard (From Emma's Blog)
  • The camera will first be positions as POV of the person walking towards the door, this will slowly zoom towards the door as if the character was walking closer to the door. This will last for 3 seconds.

  • The camera will be positioned inside the room which will be focused on the door handle. The character will then slowly begin to open the door throughout the duration of the shot. This will last for 2 seconds.

  • The camera will be positions as OTS and POV from the person sitting down already in the room as the other character walks through the door. This will last for 5 seconds

  • The camera will create a MS which is focused on the character already in the room, having a POV shot from the character who walked into the room. The character already in the room will exchange some dialogue: "Hi, are you alright?" This will last for 5 seconds.

  • This camera is similar to above. The camera will create a MS which focuses of the character who walked in to the room, having POV from the character who was already in the room. They will exchange some more dialogue: "Good thanks, are you ready to go?"  This will last for 5 seconds.

  • The camera will show both characters sitting down, facing each other in the same frame. They will exchange more dialogue: "Yeah, lets go." This will last for 3 seconds.

  • The camera will be on high angle of the 2 characters standing up and walking out of the room. The camera shot will be able to see the 2 characters close the door. There will be silence and this will last for 7 seconds.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, i felt that i worked extremely well with my group and am individually proud of our overall continuity exercise. Throughout this process, we gave each other improvements on acting and camera work, however, we did have some disadvantages towards creating this as we only had a short amount of time filming process and our camera did not work which then we lost all our work on the camera, meaning we had no filming.

However, as the camera was no longer working, Laura brought her video camera into school for us to work with at the end of the day which was extremely helpful. Overall, in my opinion, we all participated within the process and came up with decision quickly.

Here are some photo's of our filming process:
